As Arkas Maritime Group, we recognize that the world is facing urgent environmental challenges that demand immediate action. Recently, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted a revised strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to reach net zero by 2050, and to increase the usage of zero emission fuels by 2030. Ambitious goals set out by the EU Green Deal, the Emission Trading System (ETS) and the Maritime Taxonomy, and increasing requests imposed by Global Companies are in the pipeline for our industry. Our Sustainability Organization plays a pivotal role in leading Arkas Maritime Group through these global challenges.

Our primary objective is to integrate sustainability into every aspect of our operations, from processes and supply chain management to employee engagement and community outreach. By doing so, we aim to create a positive and lasting impact on the environment, society, and the long-term success of our company.

Our sustainability journey will be guided with a comprehensive roadmap that will outline Arkas Maritime Group strategic priorities and initiatives. This roadmap will serve as a compass, providing a clear direction for our transformation and setting measurable targets for our progress.

ESG Priorities

In 2023, we conducted Arkas Line Sustainability Materiality Analysis through interaction and dialogue with our internal and external stakeholders to identify our sustainability priorities and key issues. We defined sustainability priorities as topics that significantly impact Arkas Line’s operations or fall within Arkas Line’s sphere of influence. We conducted the Stakeholder Mapping, Sustainability Survey, One-on-One Meetings, and Sustainability Materiality Workshop. For a deeper dive, visit our ESG Priorities page. Our Sustainability Approach 

The basis of our sustainability approach is our social and environmental sensitivity and the way we do business, and the inclusion of sustainability in all operations and processes and making it a corporate culture. In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities towards our planet and society, together with all our stakeholders in our value chain.

As Arkas Line, we gather our sustainability efforts under two main initiatives: “Blue for Green” and “Blue for Life”.

We bring together our sustainability priorities and work, which address the environmental aspect of sustainability and fulfill our responsibilities towards nature, under the “Blue for Green” initiative. “Blue” represents our ships, containers and Arkas Line employees, while “green” represents nature and the environment.

The social aspect of sustainability, we group our activities aimed at improving the quality of human life under the “Blue for Life” initiative. We work to protect the living standards of future generations and contribute to the well-being of our society.

We are taking determined steps towards a sustainable future with both initiatives that constitute our sustainability approach.

Together, we have the power to make a substantial difference and leave a lasting legacy for future generations of Arkas.
