Egekont Container Transport S.A. began operations in 1990 as an Arkas Holding company. Beginning in 1995, the company was the Turkish representative of Yang Ming, a shipping company from the Far East, and since 1996 it has been representing Grimaldi Group, a multi-national, multi-functional Ro-Ro transporter. Yang Ming and Arkas formed a new partnership and established the company Yang Ming Anatolia in 2009, so Egekont has only been providing service for Grimaldi since then. With 120 Ro-Ro vessels in its fleet, Grimaldi Group is the parent company for Grimaldi Lines, ACL, Minoan, Finnlines and Malta Motorways of the Sea. Egekont offers a full range of services to import and export customers between the ports of Izmir, Mersin, Gemlik and Derince and the following ports through various services offered by Grimaldi Group: the Mediterranean, Europe, the Adriatic, the Baltic Sea, North and West Africa, and North and South America. Grimaldi’s vessels transport 40% of the automobile volume and 50% of the industrial machinery volume in Turkey thanks to Egekont’s agency services.
