SDG Innovations for Arkas Line Young Professionals
In 2023, Arkas Line joined the SDG Innovation for Young Professionals accelerator programme, organized by the United Nations Global Compact which aims to help companies advance the Sustainable Development Goals by fostering innovation among young professionals. Arkas Line was selected as one of the 25 companies from Türkiye to participate, and we are proud to be the first and only company from the maritime sector to take part in such programme.
Aligned with our sustainability goals, this programme empowers young talents under 35 from Arkas Line to collaborate and develop innovative business solutions that contribute to the SDGs. As a result, three of our selected innovators will participate in the nine-month sustainability programme, starting in February 2024, where they will work alongside industry professionals within the UN Global Compact to rethink business models and address key sustainability challenges.
University Collaborations
Each year, we participate in career days at top universities in Türkiye to promote Arkas Line. In the third quarter of 2023, Arkas Merchant Marine Fleet held presentations with Arkas Line executives at Vocational Schools of Higher Education and 10 universities with Maritime Faculties, including Istanbul Technical University, Dokuz Eylül University, Piri Reis University, and Yıldız Technical University. These collaborations foster talent and strengthen industry ties.
Corporate Citizenship
We continue to transform our impact into positive actions for a sustainable future. Every year, we give our colleagues the chance to donate to a non-governmental organization of their choice, supporting their solidarity efforts. In 2023, on behalf of 1,445 employees, we contributed to 15 different associations and foundations, supporting initiatives such as keeping seawater clean, planting saplings, providing food for stray animals, and aiding the treatment and education of children in need.
Support for Young Coders
At Arkas Line, we proudly sponsored Istanbul Sainte Pulcherie French High School’s robotics team, SPARC 5665, a prestigious Impact Award Finalist at the 2023 First Robotics Competition World Championship held in the USA. The team uses recycled materials in robot construction, promotes sustainability in their designs, and shares surplus materials with other teams in need. The First Robotics Competition engages young people aged 12-18 in technology and science, fostering teamwork, creativity, and engineering skills. Last year, 650 teams from 56 countries competed in the FRC World Championship, showcasing the initiative’s global impact.
Make a Wish Foundation – Wish Tree Star Award
Make-A-Wish® Turkey (Bir Dilek Tut Derneği) continues its efforts and projects to fulfill the dreams of children aged 3–18 who are battling life-threatening illnesses. The organization works to turn these children’s wishes into reality, providing them with hope, resilience, and joy. In a joint project with Bir Dilek Tut Derneği at the end of 2023, we established ‘Wish Shops’ in Arkas office buildings to benefit the association. Among all corporations, we have succeeded to raise the highest amount of donations, we were honored with the ‘Wish Tree Star’ award.
