As Arkas Line, in line with our goals of creating a sustainable future and becoming a pioneering maritime company, in 2023 we became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). As the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, UNGC provides guidance for companies to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. On this defined path, we aim to base all our projects and activities at Arkas Line on sustainability principles.
One of the critical steps here is ensuring that in all the integrated services we provide to our customers, suppliers and subcontractors across all links of the chain adhere to the standards we have set for Arkas Line and align with our core principles. Sustainable Supply Chain Management is among Arkas Line’s strategic priorities. Considering the critical importance of operating in the transportation sector across all other industries, we prioritize maintaining standards and emissions reduction in all the services we offer to our stakeholders.
To ensure confidence for our stakeholders, we have been evaluated by EcoVadis Rating Company since 2015. EcoVadis provides valuable insights into supplier sustainability performance, helping us achieve our sustainability goals and adhere to our supplier code of conduct.
Supplier Code of Conduct
To build a sustainable supply chain, we prioritize enhancing port and land connections alongside increasing zero-emission rail transport, complementing the emission reduction projects we’ve implemented on our vessels. In 2023, we successfully increased rail transport in our pilot countries, Italy and Türkiye, leading to a reduction of over 1,000 tonnes of CO2 -e Emissions.
Supply Chain Decarbonisation
As Arkas Line, we expect all our suppliers to adhere to the standards outlined in the Arkas Supplier Code of Conduct regarding human rights, labor standards, occupational health and safety, ethical values, environmental compliance, and legal regulations. We encourage our suppliers to exceed these standards wherever possible. In line with this, we implemented the “Arkas Line Supplier Code of Conduct” in 2023. We shared this document with suppliers in all countries where Arkas Line makes direct purchases and requested their signatures.
Arkas Intra-group Sustainability Program
In January 2023, we established an ‘Inter-Group Sustainability Program’ between Arkas Logistics, Marport (Port Group), and Arkas Line (Shipping Group), which are key segments of the supply chain under Arkas Holding. Through this program, our goal is to enable our specialized companies to develop joint projects in line with their sustainability objectives and to offer end-to-end zero-emission transport services and green corridors in the future.
