Arkas Blue For Green
At Arkas Line, we place sustainability at the core of our business and fulfill our responsibilities towards nature with this understanding. To involve all our employees in our sustainability priorities and initiatives, we launched the ‘Arkas Blue for Green’ initiative at the end of 2022. As part of this effort, the Sustainability and Human Resources directorates come together to organize a series of events each year.
Arkas Line ‘Blue for Green’ and ‘Green Office’ projects represent significant steps that reflect our respect for the environment and our commitment to the future. The heart symbol in our ‘Blue for Green’ logo signifies our wholehearted dedication to these endeavors. We believe that a sustainable future is only possible through genuine commitment and collective effort. These values are not only shaping today but also laying the foundation for tomorrow.
Green Office & Ecording App
Sustainability is not just a goal for us, it is our commitment for the future! As Arkas Line, we are dedicated to a sustainable future and we are taking action for it. We launched the “Green Office” initiative, which aims to foster sustainable practices in our offices all over the world.
Within the scope of the “Green Office” program, we rate our offices based on their progress in reducing energy and water consumption and their waste, and honor the office with the highest savings with the title of “Green Office” . We reward our employees who show the best progress in their sustainable living tasks and collect the most ecoPoints through our collaboration with ecordingApp, a mobile application that helps environmentally conscious activities become habits in people’s daily lives.
We continue to act with the awareness that each action counts towards a more sustainable future for generations to come.
Marine Life Conservation Association and “Last Refuge Marmara” Book
In 2023, as part of our sustainability priority “Marine Conservation and Protecting Marine Biodiversity,” we aimed to implement conservation projects for preserving marine ecosystems, preventing pollution, and enhancing biodiversity. In pursuit of this goal, we sponsored the book titled “Last Refuge Marmara,” which sheds light on the biodiversity of the Marmara Sea and the surrounding Black Sea, Aegean Sea, and Mediterranean Sea.
This book, which accompanies the documentary “Last Refuge Marmara” narrates the journey of DYKD (Marine Life Conservation Association) members as they explore marine life in the Marmara, Aegean, and Mediterranean regions. By highlighting the secrets of the Marmara Sea, the book emphasizes its significance and urgent need for protection. Through this sponsorship, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our seas and the ongoing efforts to safeguard them.
SDG Innovations for Arkas Line Young Professionals
Arkas Line, following the sustainability priorities defined, will be working on supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through an exciting opportunity conducted by UN Global Compact; SDG Innovation Accelerator for Young Professionals.
Supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is critical for companies as it helps contribute to a better future for all. The SDGs provide a powerful aspiration for improving our world, laying out where we collectively need to go and how to get there. By supporting the SDGs, companies can help end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet.
The program empowers young talents within participating companies to collaborate and drive business innovation that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and it has been supported by industry professionals within UN Global Compact, aims to empower future leaders to rethink traditional business models and address sustainability challenges innovatively.
Arkas Line announced the program in mid of December 2023, to collect applications for the initial selection process and a team of three Young Innovators were announced in January 2024 who embarked on a nine month accelerated sustainability program starting from February 2024.
Make a Wish Foundation – Wish Tree Star Award
Make-A-Wish® Turkey (Bir Dilek Tut Derneği) continues its efforts and projects to fulfill the dreams of children aged 3–18 who are battling life-threatening illnesses. The organization works to turn these children’s wishes into reality, providing them with hope, resilience, and joy. In a joint project with Bir Dilek Tut Derneği at the end of 2023, we established ‘Wish Shops’ in Arkas office buildings to benefit the association. Among all corporations, we have succeeded to raise the highest amount of donations, we were honored with the ‘Wish Tree Star’ award.
Arkas Line Supporting High School Students for SPARC Robotics Competition Project
Arkas Line, which has taken on the sponsorship of the SPARC #5665 robotics team within the scope of sustainability projects, works to increase students’ interest in the STEM field and encourage them for their future careers. Last year, the team won the Woodie Flowers and Industrial Design awards at the FRC1 Halic Regional competition.
The high school students of the SPARC #5665 robotics team proudly represented our country in Houston, where the FRC finals took place from April 17-20, 2024. Among 600 teams from around the world, SPARC #5665 stood out as one of the best teams reflecting the FIRST® dynamics, earning the Judges Award for their unique efforts and performance. The SPARC #5665 team won the Sustainability award at the Bosphorus Regional FRC 2024 tournament held at the Volkswagen Arena last March, and later received the Judges Award at the Marmara Regional FRC 2024 tournament on March 22-24.
The team members mention that recycled electronic parts and reusable materials were used in the construction of the robot. They also highlight that instead of rebuilding the robot entirely each year, its fundamental elements remain the same, with only some parts being replaced. Furthermore, they engage in new project work alongside ongoing previous projects. The team members also mention that any leftover and unused materials from robot construction are given to other teams in need for a year, and in return, members of the other teams add additional elements to these materials, which are then returned to SPARC at the end of the year.
The sponsorship of Arkas Line in the context of sustainability projects for the SPARC #5665 robotics team has brought attention to the team’s achievements and emphasis on sustainability. This sponsorship continues to support Arkas Line’s efforts in the field of sustainability.
